REFLECTION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE – by Lisa-Marie Calderone-Stewart

When Jesus comes back home, his neighbours remember Jesus the kid, and refuse to believe in the talents and gifts of Jesus the adult and prophet.

How would it be if you grew up, became famous at your craft or skill, and returned home to discover that everyone who knew you as a child had a hard time respecting you as an accomplished expert in your field? What would you do? How would you react?

How would it be if one of your friends who never seemed particularly gifted in any one area grew up, left town, and became famous for her or his talent and insight and opinions? How would you respond to her or his sudden popularity?

How might you feel about this friend?

When Jesus returns to visit his hometown, people are not very supportive. They have a hard time accepting that the child they knew is now a famous prophet, healer and speaker. Jesus is so distressed by their lack of confidence in his ability and their lack of trust that he cannot even perform the miracles he wants to.

Why not? What do you think?

How does the support of your friends and family affect your own performance level and ability?
