REFLECTION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE – by Lisa-Marie Calderone-Stewart
Money can make life a little easier to manage at times, but a famous proverb proclaims that ‘money can’t buy happiness’.
Do you think most people believe that proverb?
Why are so many people so easily convinced that having more of this or that will make their life better?
What types of ads are you most susceptible to? What do you end up buying or wanting to buy most often?
Are you an impulse buyer? Or do you not spend money unless you have planned to spend it on something you truly need?
Jesus tells us about the man who tore down his grain bins to build bigger ones in order to contain all his grain. Jesus called this man a fool.
Do you have room in your wardrobe and cupboards for all your clothes and possessions?
When your cupboards get too full, are you likely to find more storage space in your house or are you more likely to go through your things and decide what you use and don’t use?
Once you have some extra clothing or other items that you no longer want to keep, what do you do? Do you throw them away? Do you give them to agencies such as the St Vincent de Paul Society or other charity shops? Do you sell them at a garage sale to make more money?
